The 2nd Sprint Triathlon was held with great success in ecotourism resort Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Spa & Nature Park in the Riviera Maya, with a backdrop of natural beauty and the enthusiastic participation of 270 of the most recognized athletes in Mexico.
The overall winner in the men’s category was Manuel Serrano (1:07.52). Francisco Serrano came in second and Raul Aguayo, in third. In the women’s category, first place went to Victoria Juanicotena (1:15.02), and second place to Ixchel Nataly Ricalde. Third place went to Andrea Munoz.
Raul Aguayo of Aire Libre noted that the triathlon was held in the best possible location due to the natural landscape offered by Hacienda Tres Rios, which allowed competitors not only visual enjoyment but also a challenging course.
The third edition of this race is scheduled for May 23, 2013. Due to the great interest within the community of triathletes throughout Mexico the annual event is expected to continue for many years.
“We hope to grow the Olympic distance competition to make it more attractive to athletes”, said Raul Aguayo, adding that 300 competitors registered for the event, but 270 competed.
The competition, backed by the Mexican Triathlon Federation, included a 750 meter swim, a 20 kilometer bike ride and 5 kilometer run. The categories were male and female branches of between 16 years to 50 years and up.
