The Sunset World Cancun soccer team was proclaimed champion of the 2011 inter-hotel soccer tournament, organized by the Hotel Association of Cancun, which lasted 16 days and included 108 games and 1034 goals scored.
The new king of the ultimate hotel employee soccer tournament in the Caribbean won the final by beating the Hacienda Tres Rios team in an emotional meeting that was played with great passion and sportsmanship. The final score was 8-3.
The tournament was marked by the supremacy of the two teams, both representing Sunset World (Cancun vs. Riviera Maya), that were both at the top of the leader board throughout the tournament. The game was played fairly with few fouls, suspension, injuries and no major incidents during the game.
In addition to being crowned champions, the Sunset World Cancun team was also the leader in number of team goals. The tournament runner-up, Hacienda Tres Rios, won the Fair Play award for being the cleanest and most disciplined team. In addition the Best Goalkeeper award went to Mr. José Luis Gustavo Vargas, Corporate Director of Engineering and Maintenance for Sunset World, for allowing the least number of goals and Best Cheerleader was awarded to Mariana Velasco who attended all tournament games.
